Friday's Letters

Dear Where I Live,

OK, so this isn't exactly where we live, but it's down the street.

You're awesome. We had a  Moms' group today and it was SO much fun! And do you know how nice it is to go to one without packing and piling in the car (when I say "piling" it makes me sound like I have a lot more than one child, but I still feel like we "pile"). We walked out our door, went about 50 feet down the road to our neighbor's home (I have no idea what 50 feet is. I'm not one of those people that can estimate distance. I have no visual concept of feet or yards. None.). Amazing. I am so grateful that we live in a townhome complex right now. If you live here, it's pretty much a prerequisite to own a dog or a baby (yes, I just said "own" a baby). So if you are in possession of one of those, come on down.

Dear Bloggers,
Have you ever become super great "blog friends" with someone, only to realize you live RIDICULOUSLY near to each other? This just happened to me and it's amazing. Go say hi to Heather. Oh, P.S. We also pretty much took over Twitter last night because of it so, sorry if that was a little annoying (but I'm not sorry).

Dear Everyone,
If you haven't entered the giveaway on This Hive for a $50 gift card, you should probably do so. Who doesn't love a dress or two?

And also, if I may share this little thought with you:

I keep reading articles about women who read blogs and then compare their lives to the lives of the bloggers and then end up feeling bad about themselves in the process. They/we feel like the authors of said blogs have perfect lives while ours suck. These articles always seem to say the same thing: bloggers need to be real.

Now, I'm all for being real, I completely am, and I strive to be that way. And we should be real. But I think something else needs to be addressed (here I go sounding like I'm an actual "blogger," I know I'm not, this is just my {hopefully} humble opinion). How about when we are readers of blogs (which we all are, obviously...) we try to be happy for other people instead of envious or jealous or them? You know? Don't allow it to get you down. We obviously aren't ALL great cooks, fashionistas, avid DIYers and so on. Some of us are great cooks, some are fashionistas and some are amazing DIYers. No one is all of these things. We all have our strengths, we all have our weaknesses and I think we should appreciate the strengths of others because ours strengths are not all the same, and they shouldn't be. We need to look at ourselves and find out what we're good at, and we need to celebrate that rather than wishing we could do something like someone else. And I'm just going to end this like a news article (abruptly) because this is a large-and-in-charge chunk of text. Bye.

Oh, and for the record, I don't think I am one of those people that other people are envious of, what with my puke stories and all. This is just my view of blogging right now.

OK, that's enough deepness around these parts. Enjoy your weekend (personally, I'll be working up a storm...wooo).

I so needed to read this today. It's so easy to get caught up in comparisons, but we're all at different places in life and we're actually only getting glimpses into someone's world--not the whole picture.

And great letters! Hope you'll hop over and check out mine too!

It is unreal how small this world is, and how we can run across others who we have so much in common with, and even live close to!

I love your "deep" chunk of text, you are so right. I think it's only natural for people to compare their lives to somebody else's but I think we all need to keep in mind that everybody is just showing the good aspects of their life, so to speak, on their blogs. The recipes that turned out great, the outfits that looked cute, the fun things they did with their significant other, etc. Not the recipes that turned out gross, or the 5 outfits that they changed out of before the cute one they posted, or the weekends spent lounging on the couch with no make-up on doing absolutely nothing. I don't know, that's just my 2 cents I guess.

I love your blog, definitely a new follower! Thanks for stopping by mine! :-)

A few years ago, I discovered a blogger whose blog I read turned out to be a girl I went to high school with! We have since become good friends and keep in touch regularly!

and you are right- instead of coveting what the others have, we should be happy for them and not be jealous! :)

In my mind, I already commented on this, but then it legit kept me up at night wondering if I did... and then now I see I didn't!

ANYWAY thanks for the shout out! :) For real, I still cannot believe the small-world-ed-ness that just happened. I'm mentally planning playdates in the future :)
