Zulily

I just bought these soft shoes for C from Zulily.

He needed some more shoes, and I resisted a Charlie Banana cloth diaper purchase yesterday so I decided it was okay. I also let T pick out the print. I was partial to the star prints, but C has lots of not-so-boyish stuff (because I'm totally not a fan of sports themed everything) so adding a little masculinity to his wardrobe seemed like a fun thing.

I have such a shopping issue. The golden years (shopping-wise) of my life were in high school when I had a good paying job, worked lots of hours, and spent every last penny at the mall. My closet overflowed with shoes, clothes and bags. It. was. awesome. (Oh, wait, I was thoughtful and I tithed too--I wasn't all selfish).

Now, I don't buy anything (except things for C and cloth diapers!!) because T is a saver. You know how people always say spenders and savers attract each other? Well it's totally true for us. I'm so glad I have T to reign me in. I need it. The next step is to try not to online shop every day. Then I could stop torturing myself by looking at all the cuteness that I shouldn't be buying. Anyone else torture themselves with online browsing? Are you a spender or a saver?

P.S. Happy V-Day! I got the new Twilight and I can't wait to watch it. Tom decided to get it for me, but I was going to Target so said I'd pick it up (haha) and you don't know how hard it was to force myself to buy the regular Twilight edition and to not be a sucker for the collector's edition for $15 more with the prop flowers encased in acrylic! I told myself not to give into the silly marketing ploy, but I wanted to so bad. I think a signed flower prop from KStew or RPattz would have sealed the deal.

Mom Brain

I thought Pregnancy Brain was bad, but it turns out Mom Brain is even worse. The other night I decided to make pasta for dinner. The food processor was out on the stove because I needed to clean it after making some baby food, and there wasn't any room on the counter due to the dinner-making (we don't have lots of counter space).

Things you need to know:
1. We have a gas stove
2. The processor was on the back right burner
3. The "Power Plus" burner (perfect for boiling water) is the front right burner

Just before turning on the Power Plus burner, I thought I have to move the food processor before I turn it on. Then Carter squeaked and I went over to help him retrieve his toy from under the couch and when I returned to the kitchen, I put the water on. Then I scooped up little Carter and took him downstairs to switch a cloth diaper load of laundry (luckily it was cloth diapers because that's the fastest kind of laundry to switch from the washer to the dryer). On my way up the stairs I smelled this horrible burning smell, so I started to run up the stairs a bit faster. It smelled like the time I burned the clutch in my Dad's Jeep Wrangler at the beach {woops, it was a true mistake, we were stuck!}

I rushed into the kitchen to find this:

It was a sad day. Now my once only-used-a-few-times food processor looks like a piece of shih-tzu poodle.

If I only had a brain...

Baltic Amber Teething Necklace

So after a horrible night with C last night (I suspect due to more teething) I've decided I need to get him a Baltic Amber teething necklace. We've been using Hyland's teething gel, but it only works for about 15 minutes and then he's screaming again. I've read lots of good things about the Inspired by Finn Baltic Amber teething necklaces. Also, every time they're on Baby Steals, they sell out in about two seconds, which says something!

From the reading I've done (lots of helpful info on the Inspired by Finn site) I've learned that raw amber, and light amber contain the highest amounts of succinic acid (the component that relieves pain associated with teething). Since I read that, I want to get this necklace for C, since it seems like it will be the most effective. And it's cute too! He's going to be one good looking baby (well he is already, but you know).

Oh, and let me add: Our trip to Maine was fun and guess what?? I was sitting there in the hotel room and decided to Google "cloth diaper kittery" and I found out there was a cloth diaper store RIGHT next to our hotel, like I'm talking within a super short walking distance. Can you believe it? On their website I saw that they had Ruby Moon detergent, which I've been wanting to try, and then guess what else? They were CLOSED! Ugh! I was so sad. I guess we'll have to go back to check it out. It was the Sweet Cheeks Cloth Diaper Co.

The Sun Baby Diapers Have Arrived!

I waited over a month for these, which is a little crazy, but here's the review!

Pros:

+great prints

+great price (my sister-in-law and I split the 12 diapers for $60)

+the inside is softer than on BG 4.0s

+inserts are absorbent

Cons:

+snaps are a bit on the cheap side

+the time they took to arrive! (If you are expecting and don't have an outside baby yet, this wouldn't be a big deal)

+not the greatest website

Overall: I would recommend these. They aren't the best quality diapers out there, but the price is right and the prints are awesome. The prints pictured here (from left to right) are: tree, square, yellow star, black, zoo and circle.

Fail and Fab

We had two fails last night.

Fail #1: We gave C avocado for the first time and he hated it. He gagged so much I thought he was going to vomit. He made the most horrendous faces. It was funny and sad at the same time. We will try again next week!

Fail #2: I was scooping ice cream and I flung it into the sink : (

I'm not gonna lie, the 5 second rule crossed my mind, and then I noticed it was sitting in a pile of dirty chicken sausage water. Gross. Not to mention the 5 second rule should never apply to kitchen sinks.

Actually, there is a third fail. The Sun Baby diapers are STILL not in. It's killing me.

First Time...

using hemp tonight!

It's supposed to be more absorbant than cotton or microfiber, and I hope that's true! We haven't had an easy time finding an overnight solution. I keep hearing good things about fitteds and wool, but I thought I'd give hemp a try first (mainly because I don't want to spend the money on the wool covers because I know I'd buy new sbish ones instead of the more economical variety since they are the cutest--honestly, I do make many of my cloth diaper decisions based on the cute factor).

It's also our first night sleeping on our mattress without one of those food grade plastic bags on it to prevent off-gassing. T is so excited! In my pregnancy craziness (or not), I decided we HAD to have one to protect little C from all the terrible chemicals, which I still care about, don't get me wrong...I just don't know how much the mattress wrap actually helps. This is the article I read that led to the mattress wrap purchase. C sleeps on an organic mattress in his crib, but he's still in our room so I was worried about our mattress too.

We're taking it off because it is so loud and crinkly (we knew this going in) and it keeps waking C up. We'll see how I do without my chemical barrier. haha ...it may come back...

Most Recent CD Purchase

So today I was texting my sister-in-law about cloth diapers (a regular occurrence for us--I just love having someone else to talk to about CDs!!) and we decided to go in on a purchase of Sun Baby pocket diapers together. We haven't tried them before, but have heard some good things and they were only $60 for 12! That is just too good to pass up. Awesome prints too! Review to come!

Two Random Things

1. C belly laughed today when I was trying to squeeze honey out of the little plastic bear container and it made funny noises because it was almost empty. Every time I squeezed it he laughed for another 10 seconds. It was hilarious. I LOVE it when the most random things get him going.

2. It's funny when people ask me, "Are you still using cloth diapers?" as if one day I woke up and was like "Oh eM Gee, I'm such a dumby for using cloth. Eww, cloth diapers are so gross, why would I ever think to do that?"

But in all seriousness, why in the world would I stop using soft, cushy, cute-print fluffiness, and decide to switch to the boring, white, crinkley-ass ones?" ha. pun intended.
