Our Mini Vaca Stay at the Beach

We stayed in the cutest, quint-est cottage on the beach with my parents. They're still there (lucky them) and we're back home lounging by the pool (not too shabby either). And by lounging by the pool I mean catching Carter while he does dangerous things and trying to convince him not to jump or run, or do anything too dangerous. There isn't really actual "lounging" involved--what is that?

Well Carter definitely had his attention held at the beach. He got to know a little starfish, held many a hermit crab and touched a horseshoe crab. There were also some fiddler and spider crabs viewed from a distance (they're kind of creepy looking). Basically, there were a lot of crabs (and snails--but those aren't that exciting).

I am really excited about my "Ame" shirt from ChicNova.com

Totally appropriate, don't you think? Who doesn't love a shirt with their nickname on it?

Also, I have the best cocktail recipe. Are you ready? Get yourself a glass. Fill it halfway with a lime-a-rita and halfway with a Corona. Add lime. You're welcome. Lime-a-ritas (to me, at least) are a little too sweet; add more beer and you have perfection!

Have you gone on vacation this summer? Where?

I'm Not Dead, I Promise

Well hello there lovers. I have been missing this space like crazy. Actually, to be completely truthful, the first few days of absence were heaven--no checking email compulsively, no social media madness; just me, the husband, our Carter Man and a whole lotta boxes.

We. Are. Moving!

I'm so excited (deep down, anyway). I had a good cry last week, but we'll get to that later. The house hunting has begun and thankfully Tom's job search began and ended rather quickly. He started his new job this week! Do you know what this means though? We are officially homeless in just a few weeks (minus the fact that we have two sets of amazing parents close to the new job.)

Enter stress. (And fun and lots of daytime adventures with the now close fam, but still a little bit of stress).

So back to my boycotting of this little blogosphere. I miss it! I had a nice break (and by break I mean working and doing Beauty Mavens things and packing up our entire life to move!), but I'm ready to be back! Except for the fact that my good computer with all of my recent photos on it is packed away in a safe box somewhere. Fail. Also, did you know that living out of bags and boxes is not the most glamorous or exciting thing? I don't know where any of my good clothes are (for some reason I have no problem finding the multitude of hole-y, ragged, as  I like to call them "painting clothes." I like to live like at any moment there could be a dire need to do some serious painting.)

So back to my good cry. One day we weren't sure when we were moving, then Tom got the job offer, made a decision really fast (since he knew he'd be happy there) and was starting the new job almost immeditately. The next time we got in the car it was packed to the brim with clothes and all of our essentials. We also started talking about painting over Carter's room. Tears, tears, unreadiness, and more tears. Although, I have to say when we went to look at the first house we're considering, it started to get fun and exciting. I really do like change so I'm excited to mix up our routine.

One of my favorite recent photos of Tom and Carter. Cleaning his messy face of at the pool.
There are some fun happenings coming up on the blog. Tomorrow, get ready for some lipstick talk with Red Apple Lipstick. I've fallen in love. Monday will grace you with a casual outfit post (let's face it, my wardrobe is casual 364 days a year).

And let's talk TV really quick. I've started watching How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) on Hulu because I figured it was kind of appropriate right now. It's also hilarious. I've also been catching up on previous episodes of Tia & Tamera. Did anyone else watch their old show back in the day? I used to watch it basically every day after school. My two best friends are twins so I always felt like I fit right in with the show. haha. Well now they have a reality show on the Style Network. 'Tis a good one. The new season starts Sunday July 14th 8/7C. Get in on it.

I Don't Have "IT" Together

I don't know what "it" is, exactly, but I do know that whatever it is, it isn't under control over here. Our lives (and home) have looked a lot like this lately (notice the TV on in the background. Non-perfect mom over here...hi!)

I've felt so off recently. So much to do, so little time. I feel so busy that I can't even appreciate crossing something off my list. There are just a million more things to get to. I don't like it when life gets like that. It makes it hard to remember to appreciate the small things. Like tiny toddler toes and specks of leftover pink nail polish (he wanted to be like me).

I don't know if it's the over-tiredness that's getting to me, but I cried last week because we sold our car. Loser! I know you're thinking it. (ha) It was the car we drove Carter home from the hospital in.

The first one he pretended to "drive" in. When did I get so sentimental? I'm tearing up just looking at this picture! We were done with it though and it's over-sizedness.

We're going to be moving at the end of July and I cringe when I think of how I'll feel. If I cried over a silly SUV what am I going to do when we leave our home? Where Carter was a teeny baby! Where he did his first everything. It's not going to be good. I'm excited for the changes (I truly love change...good change, anyway). And I always knew we'd move, but I don't feel ready.

I'm terrified to leave his sweet nursery (where he never spent a single night) behind. I don't think it helps that I'm writing this post from his room. His shark is staring at me from behind and his name hangs on the wall above my head.

For the next few months, despite the ridiculous business that is our lives, I'm going to try to appreciate everything here. Especially the little things that seem to float by without recognition. Like the way Carter drives his truck back and forth from the kitchen to the living room and the way that he stands on his tip toes to turn on the TV when he knows he shouldn't. I know he'll do these things later, but it won't be the same; it won't be here.

A Man of Many Hats (and laughs)

So I'm not going to lie. It still feels weird to blog after all that awfulness in Boston. But it doesn't make things any happier to just ignore this little happy place either. So here I am. I have a DIY highlights (YES, they came out well!) post I want to share with you, but I'm still not totally feeling it so I'll save it for when I'm really excited like I should be!

I guess, for now, I'll share some of our life lately with you. Carter's been wearing lots of different hats:

His new favorite thing is to laugh hysterically. At almost anything. Like hitting his dog against a plastic bag on the floor of the back seat of the car.

He has also recently become obsessed with pretending to drive (in anything--a video game at Chuck E. Cheese, the real car, his Little Tikes truck, you name it). He's also enamored with one of our neighbors who is about 7 years old. I'm going to estimate that he gave her somewhere around 13 hugs today.

Aside from terrorizing t-shirt displays at Old Navy, he's been a super sweet boy this week and we're enjoying the warmer weather.

I'm also really wanting to get some makeup posts done because it is actually still light out when Tom gets home now! (Hooray for the end of tax season!!!!) We have him back on nights and Saturdays and we're super stoked about it. This means I will actually have time to take a photo or two. And that is never, ever a bad thing.

"See" you tomorrow!

Easter According to Me, Carter...

Hi. Since Mom (or Amy, as I like to call her now) told me she never said anything about Easter, I thought I'd fill you peeps (get it?) in on the deets.

Well, first, you should know that it was tough to get a family picture of the three of us. Mom said one of us wouldn't sit still. No idea who that chump was. Also, I don't really like the TOMS Mom got me, see?

Right after that picture, I got as far away from those shoes as possible, and you know what? I wore just socks to church. It was awesome. Thank God Almighty, my toes were free at last.

When we got back from church I ate some Cocoa Puffs. Those are a traditional Easter food, right? I could tell mom was a little uptight about me eating 'em, but it's better than straight up candy, am I right? The woman needs to chillll out. I shared them with my cousin, Ben, because I'm nice like that. Plus he's pretty cute, which makes it impossible for me to be anything but sweet to him. We're going to be the dream team in a few years. Just wait.

I got to meet my new cousin, Ryan, and he's a pretty chill dude. He basically slept the whole time. Didn't seem like too much fun to me; acted like he was 3 days old or something. Babies. I'm hoping Mom doesn't get any ideas. He was pretty perfect, but I've made it infinitely clear that I want a dog, not a baby.

I got sick of being inside so we went on a walk. Then I got bored so I decided to lay in the middle of the road and play with sand instead. Mom says don't worry, there weren't any cars coming.

Finally I calmed down a little with my dad. He's good like that.

Until next time...
